Comic Coloring

 Comic Coloring - Evan A Charan copy.jpg

Reflection

1. In as much detail as possible record the steps it took to complete this project. Start with setting up your layers in Photoshop and use your Photoshop vocabulary to explain how you edited each layer to color your comic book character. Use complete sentences.

I set up my document by creating a new file, with the size selected as "letter" which is 8.5 inches wide and 11 inches tall, I then clicked the "color more" button and selected"RGB Color", after that I set the background as "White" and then clicked create. Once I was in the document, I went onto the internet and searched for a "blank children's coloring page" of the characters I wanted to use which were Iron Man and Spider Man, the reason why I chose Spider Man and Iron Man for this project was because when I was a little kid I had a Spider Man and Iron Man action figure that I played with a lot and used my imagination to picture them going on cool adventures and saving the day. Once I found the two images I wanted to use I dropped them into Photoshop and named the layers they were in according to which character was in the layer which was either Spider Man or Iron Man, I then used the Magic Wand tool to select the white background of the coloring page images and clicked delete which removed the background of the image, I also repeated this step for the other image which was Spider Man for me. After I removed the background for both of the images, I moved the characters around using the transform tool and positioned them in a way where it looked like they were both arriving somewhere, once the characters were in position I turned off the visibility of the background layer, clicked "Layer" at the top of the screen and then clicked "Merge Visible Layers" which merged the two separate layers of my characters into one layer, I named that new layer "Line Art"and then right clicked the layer followed by selecting"Duplicate", I named the new layer I created "Flat Color" and locked the previous layer. When I was in the "Flat Color" layer, I used the Magic Wand tool to select portions of the characters I wanted to color and then used either the Paint Bucket tool or Paintbrush tool to paint the character in, I got the colors I wanted to use for the characters by using hex codes of the characters colors I found on the internet. After I was done coloring in both of my characters, I duplicated the layer using the same process I had done before and locked the "Flat Color" layer, I named the new layer "Shading" and created another blank layer called "Swatches". In the Swatches layer I tested the colors I wanted to use for shading and once I was liked the color I used the same techniques I used for the "Flat Color" layer to do shading for the "Shading" Layer" except only with the Paintbrush tool and not the Paint Bucket tool. The final thing I did in this project was add a background by looking through the internet for a city background and then I dragged that image to photoshop and used "Command T" to make the image bigger and then I moved that layer with the city background below the three layer I created before.

2. Based on the learning target, what level of mastery does your project demonstrate (Exceeds, Meets, Needs Work, minimal understanding). Why do you think so? Make sure to provide specific evidence.

I think my project demonstrated meeting the learning project because it included two characters, use of multiple layers, swatches, and a background layer which were the requirements of the projects, however, it did not go beyond those requirements, therefore I feel that my project demonstrates meeting the learning target.
