Conclusion Questions
1. In as much detail as possible record the steps it took to create this project in Photoshop. Use complete sentences.
I set up the document by selecting letter as the size of the document and horizontal as the alignment of the document, I set the background of the document as transparent. I began working on the document by selecting the text box tool and writing my name, but before I did that I went on daFonts.com and looked for a nice big font which was tropical love. After I typed my name in I used the transform tool to stretch out and move my name to the center of the document. After I had set my name in the center of the document I began looking for images that represented me, I ended up formatting my project in a way where my first name was comprised of images of places I had gone to, while my last name was comprised of pictures of moments in my life and my family. When I found an image I wanted to use, I dragged it into Photoshop where I would drag it over to the place I wanted it to be, and then I would right-click the layer in which that image was in and click create clipping mask which would then clip the image into my name, if I needed to remove a section of the photo or image I would click create a layer mask and select the paintbrush tool using either black or white to edit the image or picture they way I want to, I then repeated these steps until my name was completely filed in with pictures and images. To create the popouts, I dragged an image from the internet to Photoshop where I then used either the magic eraser or object selection tool to remove the background of the image by clicking the background while using the magic eraser or clicking and dragging around the image using the object selection tool, after I did that I clicked invert selection and clicked backspace to remove the background, I repeated these steps for my other two popouts.
2. What are clipping masks? How do they differ from just using the eraser tool in Photoshop? How might you use them in the future to create more projects in Photoshop?
Clipping Masks are a tool in Photoshop that confines/crops an image to fit inside something like a shape or letter without cutting or altering the image the cropping would usually do, it differs from using the eraser tool in Photoshop because it does not alter the image that the eraser tool does which is erase part of the image instead it almost puts the whole image underneath the thing it is being masked to and lets it peak out a certain points rather than cut off parts of the image that are not meant to be seen. I could use clipping masks in the future to make images confined in things that are not just letters instead I could use them to make images confined in shape instead which would be helpful in creating a logo or business card where small details are very important.
3. What was successful in your project? What was unsuccessful and what would you do differently next time to solve this problem?
What was successful in my project was that I finished my project and I really liked how it turned out. What was unsuccessful in my project was that initially when I started the project I was very confused and frustrated with using Photoshop but when I started to have some practice with Photoshop I realized that it was not that hard and started to really enjoy using it.
4. Based on the learning target, "Create a multimedia collage of personal interests, identity, and culture in Photoshop that demonstrates knowledge of media and technology skills by utilizing clipping masks and layer masks. " what level of mastery does your project demonstrate (Exceeds, Meets, Needs Work, minimal understanding). Why do you think? Make sure to provide specific evidence.
The level of mastery I think my project demonstrates is a level four mastery because I met all the requirements of the project and went beyond by using more than fifteen photos/images which were required for my project, I instead used twenty-three photos in my project, I also used a font that was not included in Photoshop which was tropical love.
