Photoshop Pumpkin Face

Pumpkin - Evan A Charan.jpg

Reflection

I started this project by downloading the image of the pumpkin and exporting it into Photoshop. I then downloaded an image of a child smiling and embedded the image into Adobe Photoshop by going to "File" and clicking "Place Embedded" followed by selecting the image of the child. After I added the image, I turned down the opacity of the image to around fifty percent to align the image with the center of the pumpkin, I then used the "Elliptical Marquee Tool" to create an elliptical outline around the mouth, I followed that action with clicking the layer mask icon to create a layer mask. I then turned up the opacity of the image of the child to one hundred percent and then used the brush tool with the color black selected to remove unwanted parts of the mouth like the top lip. After I completed the mouth, I added an orange hue to the mouth by clicking the add adjustment layer icon and selecting "Hue and Saturation Layer", I then clicked "Colorize" and slid the slider for saturation to the max, followed by adjusting the slider for hue until it matched the color of the pumpkin. When the color of the mouth turned orange, I used the "Brush tool" with black selected to remove the orange hue from the teeth and gums. Once I completed the mouth, I inserted the image of the child again using "Place embedded", and used the "Elliptical Marquee Tool" to select both of the eyes by pressing "Shift " at the same time, I then clicked the layer mask icon to create a layer mask and used the "Brush tool" to conceal unwanted parts of the eyes which were the eyelids. When the eyes were completed, I right-clicked on the layer with the mouth and selected "Bevel and Emboss" where I changed the style from "inner bevel" to emboss", the direction from "Up" to "Down", unselected "Global Light", changed the color of highlight mode to the brightest shade of orange on the pumpkin, and changed the color of the shadow mode to the darkest shade of orange on the pumpkin. To finish my pumpkin, I added a hat to it by inserting an image of a straw hat similar to those found on a scarecrow using "Place Embedded" and then used the "Magic Wand Tool" to remove the image's background. Based on my understanding of Photoshop and the learning target, I believe my project demonstrates "meeting the standard" because I completed what was required of the project which was for the pumpkin to have a face and mouth. Still, the hat I added to the pumpkin did not look realistic and overall did not improve the look of the pumpkin, for these reasons I think my project demonstrates "meeting the standard".
